Human Services
  • The Human Services Career Cluster encompasses multiple pathways with a variety of educational opportunities. This cluster prepares students for employment in career pathways that relate to families and human needs, such as family and community services, personal care, and consumer services. There are eight program areas: Consumer Services; Early Childhood Development and Services; Family Studies and Community Services; Fashion; Food, Wellness, and Dietetics; Interior Design/Real Estate; and Cosmetology. Rigorous instruction is provided to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in preparation for credentials, articulation, and/or further education. Each course contains specific content standards indicating what students should know and be able to do upon completion of the course. Family and Consumer Sciences is the foundation course for these pathways.

    Two programs are offered through Sylacauga High School in this cluster area. They are:

    • Fashion Program
    • Food, Wellness, and Dietetics Program

    The Career Tech Student Organization for this cluster is Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) whose activities help students develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success, whose activities help students develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

    Students participating in this pathway may have an opportunity to earn a Career Readiness Benchmark (CRI) in either:

    • ServSafe Manager
    • ASK Institute – Concepts of Entrepreneurship and Management

    Career Readiness Indicators (CRI) are credentials/certifications made available to all students enrolled in a program where career and technical skill proficiencies are aligned with industry-recognized standards. CLICK HERE for more information on Careers in this Cluster.
